What is your athletic background?
I was on the swim team in high school and played on a women's rugby team in college. I tried to play in an adult softball league once and I was absolutely terrible.
What was your workout routine prior to CF Spero?
I worked out a few times a week or went for runs. Sometimes I didn't do anything. I definitely wasn't as consistent as I've been since joining Spero.
What was your first experience with CrossFit?
Spero is my only experience with CrossFit. Rebecca was my coach for my On Ramp and explained the movements (many of which were new to me) so well!
When did you start CrossFit?
In the beginning of 2021 I was desperate for a workout routine after being cooped up during all the Covid restrictions. I hadn't really worked out for almost a year. I walked by Spero and decided to call and ask about joining.
Why did you choose CF Spero?
It's really close to my house and Dave made me feel excited to try it.
What keeps you coming back?
I'm a Spero Superfan. I love seeing the ways I've gotten stronger or faster, especially since joining almost three years ago. I think the coaching is really great and the community is super supportive. There are always people encouraging me towards the little goals I've set for myself. I love that.
Why do you live in the Oak Park Area?
I moved here almost ten years ago to be closer to my sister. My husband and I love the community in South East Oak Park and think it's a great place to raise our kids.
What do you do for a living?
I work at an elementary school helping teachers set goals and action plans for their instruction or their classroom. It's fun and teachers are really inspiring people to support.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I like to read, cook, and throw pottery. I also have three elementary aged kids that I like to take on adventures.
What are one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CF?
I am happier and less stressed out. :) Starting the morning with a workout sets me up for a good day and I love the 5:30 and 6:30 crew.
What is the biggest change you have seen since starting CrossFit at Spero?
I just feel better. Healthier, stronger, all the things.
What are your goals for 2023?
I really want to be able to do consistent push ups and get my double unders- mostly because I want to stop whipping myself with the rope when I trip over it.
What's your favorite and least favorite movement?
Favorite: I actually enjoy burpee box jumps. It's a fun movement to push myself. I also think power cleans and rope climbs are fun.
Least Favorite: I do not like wall balls or the bike.
What's your favorite meal?
I like soup a lot. Any kind. I also like french fries.
What would you say to someone thinking about starting CrossFit at Spero?
You don't have to be intimidated! It is a welcoming place that helps support you wherever you're at. It's also fun to have such tangible ways to measure how you've grown. If you show up and work hard, you definitely have people that will support you in getting to your goals!
